How Much Is a Twitch Sub Worth? Subs to USD, Explained
A Twitch sub costs the viewer $4.99, but the streamer gets roughly half. Here is exactly what each tier pays, a subs-to-dollars table you can look up at a glance, and the things that make real payouts smaller than the maths suggests.
The short answer
A Tier 1 Twitch subscription costs $4.99 in the US. Under the standard 50/50 revenue split, the streamer receives about $2.50 of that. Streamers on an improved 70/30 split, such as those in the Partner Plus program, receive about $3.49. Twitch keeps the rest.
What each tier pays
| Tier | Viewer pays (US) | Streamer at 50/50 | Streamer at 70/30 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | $4.99 | ~$2.50 | ~$3.49 |
| Tier 2 | $9.99 | ~$5.00 | ~$6.99 |
| Tier 3 | $24.99 | ~$12.50 | ~$17.49 |
Twitch subs to USD
Monthly payout for Tier 1 subs at US pricing, before tax:
| Subs | 50/50 split | 70/30 split |
|---|---|---|
| 10 | $25 | $35 |
| 50 | $125 | $175 |
| 100 | $250 | $349 |
| 250 | $624 | $873 |
| 500 | $1,248 | $1,747 |
| 1,000 | $2,495 | $3,493 |
| 5,000 | $12,475 | $17,465 |
| 10,000 | $24,950 | $34,930 |
So 100 subs is roughly $250 a month, 500 subs is about $1,250, and 1,000 subs is about $2,500 at the standard split.
Why real payouts come in lower
Regional pricing
Twitch charges less for subs in many countries to match local incomes. A viewer in a lower-priced region pays less than $4.99, so your share of that sub is smaller too. Channels with large international audiences often see an average well under $2.50 per sub.
Prime subs churn
Viewers with Amazon Prime get one free sub a month to use on any channel. It generally pays about the same as a Tier 1 sub, but it does not renew automatically, so many Prime subs disappear after a month unless you remind viewers to renew.
Tax and payout timing
Twitch pays monthly once you pass the payout threshold, and the money is taxable income. Set aside a share for tax, especially once subs become a meaningful part of your income.
Gifted subs, Bits and ads
Gifted subs pay the same as regular subs of that tier, which is why gift bombs are such a big moment for smaller channels. Bits are the simplest line in any Twitch budget: each Bit is worth exactly $0.01 to the streamer, so 1,000 Bits is $10. Ads pay on a CPM basis, roughly $1.50 to $6 per 1,000 ad impressions, and running more ad breaks tends to cost viewers.
Followers are not subs
A lot of people searching "how much is 1 million subs on Twitch" really mean followers. Followers are free and pay nothing directly. They matter because a bigger, active follower base converts into more subs and better sponsorships. As a rough guide, many streamers convert a small single-digit percentage of their regular viewers into paying subs, and community-focused channels convert more.
How streamers grow sub revenue
- Make subs feel like membership. Emotes, sub-only streams, Discord roles and shout-outs give people a reason to stay subscribed.
- Remind Prime viewers to renew. A quick reminder at the start of the month recovers a surprising number of Prime subs.
- Stream on a schedule. Viewers subscribe to channels they can count on being live.
- Grow off-platform. Clips on TikTok, YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels are how most streamers find new viewers. Our hook generator helps those clips land.
